This is one of the best southwest chili/ ground beef chili recipes you’ll ever try. It has an amazing, robust flavor with just the right amount of spice.

THE BEST HOMEMADE CHILI RECIPE EQUALS GREAT COMFORT FOOD

What is more perfect than homemade chili on a cloudy Fall day? If you’re like me, there is just something about chili ingredients that fill the house with a wonderful aroma and warms the heart.

This southwest chili recipe is perfect for anyone who likes to make food ahead or freeze in the icebox. Homemade chili is a great meal to take to work.

All the best ground beef chili recipes start with onion, peppers, garlic, olive oil simmering on a pot.

CHILI RECIPE INGREDIENTS

The homemade chili my husband prepares has a distinct kick, and is the most delicious chili recipe I’ve ever tasted.

Recipes with ground beef like this one are lean and high in protein. What I found refreshing about this homemade chili was the use of corn and portobello mushrooms.

We like to enjoy our chili on a lazy Sunday afternoon. As the chili simmers down, the smell of the spicy tomatoes in this beef chili recipe permeates the entire house.  We snacked on it all day.

This homemade southwest chili recipe gets better and better the longer it simmers.

HOMEMADE CHILI RECIPES CAN BE EASY, FUN, AND DELICIOUS

The amount of spice in this easy homemade chili recipe was right on point. Not too hot and not too mild. My husband’s take on this classic was just remarkable.

Unlike more traditional chili recipes, we like the southwestern flavor profiles of black beans and corn.

HOMEMADE CHILI DONE RIGHT

Cooking chili is a matter of preference and what works best for you. Some prefer to use a crockpot/slow cooker, I like the slow simmer in a large pot method.

In my opinion, what makes a great chili great is the patients and timing of the recipe.

Homemade chili that is rushed is not quite the same and lacks any kind of depth.

ALL CHILI RECIPES ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL!

You know that clause in the Declaration of Independence? Ignore it. All AMERICANS might be considered equal in the eyes of God and Country…but chili has a lonnnnnng way to go, let me tell you.

Chili recipes are about as common as the last name Smith. Some people prefer a traditional Texas chili, some prefer a Mexican/ Southwest style chili, and some prefer white chilies.

Whatever your preference might be, just be careful with the spice in your recipes.

OPTIONAL CHILI RECIPE ADDITIVES

While some prefer their chili made simple or plain, other prefer adding crackers, cheese, chives, or even Fritos to their bowls of chili goodness. When I was younger, my mother got me hooked on adding Doritos, cheese, and chives to the top of my chili bowl. Once added, it’s back in the microwave so that the cheese melts over the luscious bowl of chili.

MMM MMM MMM!!!

…Pardon me. Got a little overexcited there.

REPLACE BEEF WITH VENISON OR BISON FOR A UNIQUE CHILI TWIST

If you really want to try something different, try adding or replace the beef with venison or bison. Out of all of the batches of chili that I have made or sampled in my life, bison chili will always be my favorite.
