What Do Shirataki Spaghetti Noodles Taste Like?

Shirataki noodles recipes seem to be popping up everywhere. But what are shirataki noodles, and what do they taste like?

Tofu shirataki noodles are Japanese noodles made from konjac yams. The noodles are very low in carbohydrates and calories and contain mostly water and glucomannan.

The texture and constancy are very similar to that of traditional spaghetti noodles. Even better, the tofu shirataki tastes like authentic spaghetti.

Where to buy shirataki noodles?

If you want to make this shirataki spaghetti recipe, tofu shirataki noodles can often be found in Asian stores and some traditional grocery chains.

As mentioned earlier, shirataki spaghetti noodles are low in carbs and calories. They contain 4 carbohydrates and 15 calories per 8 oz. package, to be exact.

Even though this recipe is easy on your waistline, you won’t walk away from the table feeling hungry. Insulin-dependent diabetics do not need to take large quantities of insulin.

Diabetics who do not require insulin can keep their blood sugar at an optimal level. This makes a perfect low carb pasta recipe for diabetics.

Preparation

The first thing you need to do is cut open the package of tofu shirataki noodles and drain the contents into a strainer.  Rinse under cold water for about a minutes and then drain the water from the noodles.

Optional Step

I find the noodles are very long and even when it’s cooked, it can be very hard to cut with a fork. I prefer to place them on a cutting board and halve them with a knife.

How to Cook This Shirataki Noodles Recipe

Boil 1 ounce of water per 8 ounce package of noodles. Add in noodles and a tsp of salt. Simmer for 2 minutes.  Let the noodles cool and then return them to the strainer.

Spray a medium-sized skillet with olive oil spray and place on medium heat.  Add half a bag (16 oz) of Cooked Perfect Italian Meatballs and allow them to thaw. Mix in half a jar of spaghetti sauce and stir.  Add shirataki noodles into the pan and mix in with other ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 2 packages of shirataki spaghetti noodles
  • 1/2 jar of spaghetti sauce
  • 16 oz frozen meatballs
  • PAM olive oil cooking spray

Instructions

  1. On a cutting board, cut shirataki noodles in half.
  2. In a large pot, add 2 ounces of water and boil.
  3. Add 2 packages of shirataki noodles and a tsp of salt.
  4. Allow noodles to simmer for 2 minutes.
  5. Strain the noodles again to remove excess water.
  6. Coat large skillet with Pam olive oil cooking spray.
  7. Set skillet on medium high heat.
  8. Add 16 oz of Cooked Perfect Italian Meatballs. Cook until meatballs start to brown.
  9. Add half a jar of spaghetti sauce and stir continuously.
  10. Add shirataki noodles into mixture and continue to stir.
