I created this Whoppers candy recipe to demonstrate how easy it is to make chocolate-covered malted milk balls at home, using basic ingredients. If you love chocolate as I do, you will love this homemade Whopper recipe using white chocolate, milk chocolate, and malted milk powder.

Fond Memories of Halloween Whoppers Candy

Back when I was a kid, I used to love going out for Halloween candy with my friends. Back in the stone age, we used to make our Halloween costumes ourselves. Halloween was a major event back then and the anticipation built for months in advance.

Back then, you could walk around for hours on end, as there were no curfews. Most people would hand out candy but far too often people would hand out popcorn or apples instead.

I remember my face lighting up when someone would hand out Whoppers. The milk chocolate and malt go oh so well together. I think kids today don’t really experience the joy of Halloween like previous generations.

Adults and Candy Don’t Mix

As an adult, I never stopped loving chocolate-covered malted milk balls. The only difference is now I am worried about my ever-expanding waistline.

When my kids go out for Trick or Treat, I make them pay the daddy tax. “Hand over the Whopper candy!” is what I tell them.  It’s a small price to pay for them.

What You Will Need for Homemade Whopper Candy Milk Balls

The most important part of this recipe is the milk chocolate chips and the silicon mold for half spheres.  Purchase Nestle Tollhouse White chocolate chips, a paintbrush and the malted milk powder from your local grocery.

The Final Product

To my surprise, I was right.  With a little patience, I was able to make quality a Whopper candy using the recipe above as a guideline and incorporating a procedure to make truffles.

Whopper Candy Instructions

White Chocolate/ Malted Milk Powder Mix

1) Melt the white chocolate in a microwave-safe dish for 30 seconds and stir. Repeat the process until the chocolate is completely melted.

2) Stir the malted milk powder into the melted white chocolate and stir thoroughly.

3) If the mixture begins to harden, place back into the microwave for an additional 30 seconds.

Milk Chocolate and Mold

1) Melt the milk chocolate in the microwave. I recommend placing all the chips in a microwave-safe dish and cooking for 30 seconds, stirring consistently

2) Rinse and repeat at 30-second intervals until the chips are completely melted

3) Dip your brush into the melted chocolate and apply to all the half spheres in the mold

4) Place the mold into the refrigerator for 5 minutes

5) Repeat steps 2 and 3 three times

Putting it All Together

1) Remove the finished chocolate mold from the refrigerator

2) Scrape the excess chocolate off the mold’s surface. This can be used again

3) Pinch a small amount of the white chocolate/malted milk powder mixture and roll into a ball. Place it into the mold for each half-sphere. Do not go over the half-sphere or it will cause problems in the final phase

4) Place the mold back into the refrigerator for 5 minutes

5) Place a skillet on the stove at medium heat

6) Remove two of the half spheres

7) Place both open ends into the skillet for a few seconds

8) Push both open ends together to make a complete sphere and place into a dish

9) Repeat process as needed for all remaining half spheres
